Shakespeare & Co.

A beloved bookstore based in New York City
I edited memoirs, wrote forewords for a classics imprint, and organized interdisciplinary literary events
From 2016 to 2018, I had the joy of working with Shakespeare & Co. on the Upper East Side, which served as the official bookstore of Hunter College. As a graduate student, I organized readings featuring current students, alumni, and faculty. The series was energizing and well-attended, bringing together Hunter alumni, community members, and students from around CUNY. Readers included Amy Jo Burns, H’Rina DeTroy, Jacob Eigen, Alex Gillvary, Shayna Goodman, Sean Hammer, Donna Masini, Liz Moore, Saïd Sayrafiezadeh, Aisha Sidibe, Krystal Sital, and Jeannie Vanasco.
After graduating, I teamed up with the bookstore to work as a developmental editor for memoirs ranging from coming-of-age stories in Sierra Leone to navigating closeted life in corporate leadership, and pioneering work in psychotherapy. I also wrote forewords for the store’s imprint of classic works — Moby Dick, Gulliver’s Travels, and A Room with a View, as well as stage plays by Shakespeare and Oscar Wilde.
